What Counts as a Garage Door Emergency

Door stuck open — home left unsecured

An open garage door is an open door into your home. If the door won't close due to a broken spring, failed opener, or off-track panel, this is a same-day situation regardless of the time. Don't leave it open overnight.

Broken spring trapping your vehicle

A torsion spring that snaps overnight often leaves the door in the down position, too heavy for the opener to lift and too dangerous to manually force open. If your car is inside and you need to get out, call — we can release the tension safely and get the door operational.

Door came off the tracks

An off-track door is under uneven tension and can fall unexpectedly. Don't try to push it back onto the track by hand. We can safely reset the door and diagnose what caused it to come off in the first place.

Door won't fully close — security or weather concern

A door that stops a few inches from the floor or reverses before closing fully is a security gap. In Connecticut winters, it's also a fast path to frozen pipes if the garage is attached to the home's water supply.

What to Do While You Wait

If the door is stuck open, lock the interior door between your garage and home if you have one. Don't leave valuables in plain sight. If the opener is the issue, you can use the manual red cord to disengage it and operate the door by hand — but only if the door is balanced (both springs intact). If a spring is broken, don't try to manually lift the door.
