Garage Door Cable Repair in Connecticut — Safe, Same-Day Service
A snapped or frayed cable makes your garage door unsafe to operate. We replace lift cables statewide with the door properly balanced and all tension correctly set.
Garage door cables do the physical work of lifting the door in coordination with the springs. When a cable snaps, frays, or slips off its drum, the door drops on that side, jams in the track, or refuses to move at all. Operating a door with a compromised cable risks damaging the track, the opener, and the spring system — and puts anyone nearby in a dangerous situation.

How Garage Door Cables Work
Lift cables run from the bottom bracket at each lower corner of the door up and around a drum attached to the torsion spring bar. As the spring winds and unwinds, the cables wrap and unwrap on the drum to guide the door's movement. The cables don't lift the door on their own — the spring does the work — but they control the movement and keep the door balanced on the track.
Signs a Cable Needs Replacing
Visible fraying or kinking
Steel cables are made of twisted wire strands. When individual strands begin to separate or the cable develops a sharp bend, failure is coming. A frayed cable is a warning — don't wait for the snap.
One side of the door drops or hangs lower
A cable that's slipped off the drum or is significantly stretched on one side causes the door to tilt. This also puts extra stress on the spring and the track on the other side.
Slack cable visible along the track
If you can see a loose cable loop hanging along the side of your door, that side has lost its tension. This often happens right after a spring breaks — the spring releases and the cable goes slack.
Why Cable Work Requires Professional Handling
Garage door cables work in combination with the spring system, which holds significant stored energy. Replacing a cable means first safely releasing that spring tension, then re-tensioning the system correctly after the new cable is installed. Skipping this process or doing it with the wrong tools can result in serious injury or immediate cable re-failure. This is not a job for YouTube tutorials.
